Cattle

Nautgripir
Cattle road sign (Nautgripir)
What do I do?

Cows cross the road here, usually on their way to and from milking in the morning and late afternoon. Stop and let the herd pass — they won't hurry, and neither should you.

You'll see this in dairy country, especially in the south, where the barn and the pasture sit on opposite sides of the road. Since 2024 the animal warnings have been consolidated into a single sign called Dýr (animals), with the pictured animal swapped to suit — so the same triangle may show a cow, sheep or reindeer.
