Road closed to all vehicles

What do I do?
Don't drive past it in either direction — the road beyond is closed to all vehicles, often with a gate or barrier as well. Turn around and check road.is for the reason and a way round.
Unlike the no-entry sign, this plain red-ringed circle closes the road both ways. In Iceland you'll usually meet it on a barrier marked "Lokað" (closed) — a winter storm closure or a highland road that hasn't opened for the season. Driving past a closure can void your rental insurance and end in a very expensive rescue.
