Distance plate
Fjarlægð að hættu eða stað sem bann eða leiðbeining varðar
What do I do?
The small white plate modifies the sign above it. A distance like "300 m" means the hazard or rule starts that far ahead, not here.
This is the general pattern for all the little white plates in Iceland: they never stand alone, they fine-tune the main sign. Variants of this one show a length instead ("next 5 km"), or arrows for which direction or side the rule covers. You'll meet distance plates constantly under single-lane-bridge and blind-hill warnings on the Ring Road.
