Warning · A28.11
Sharp pavement edge
Há slitlagsbrún
What do I do?
The tarmac ends in a hard step at the shoulder. Keep your wheels on the surfaced part — if one does drop off, slow down first and steer back at a gentle angle instead of yanking the wheel.
Icelandic roads are built up on embankments, and repaving often leaves the new surface sitting well above the gravel shoulder. Dropping a wheel off that lip and jerking it back is a classic single-car rollover, and rollovers are the accident that hurts visiting drivers most.
The words on the sign
