Slippery road

Sleipur vegur
Slippery road road sign (Sleipur vegur)
What do I do?

The surface ahead can be slick even when it looks fine. Ease off before you reach the stretch, and avoid sudden braking or steering while you're on it.

This warns about a stretch that gets slippery — wet basalt dust, new asphalt, clay after rain — rather than routine winter ice, which has its own warning sign. If the tail of the car steps out, lift off gently and steer where you want to go; don't stamp on the brakes.
