Where tarmac becomes gravel
The paved-to-gravel transition is where many rentals spin out. Slow right down at the change, avoid harsh steering, and treat gravel like a low-grip surface.
F-roads need a 4x4
Roads numbered with an F (e.g. F35) are highland mountain tracks, often with unbridged river crossings. They legally require a 4WD vehicle, are closed in winter, and standard rental insurance usually does not cover them.
