Some F-roads cross rivers with no bridge. This is genuinely dangerous and rarely covered by insurance.
Only on F-roads
Fords (vað) appear on highland routes with no bridge. Water depth and current change daily with the weather and glacial melt.
What to do
Never cross alone or blind. Walk it first or watch a local 4x4 go through, cross slowly in low gear along the same line, and if you are unsure, turn back. It is not worth it.
