Emergency shelter
Neyðarskýli
What do I do?
Note it as you pass — it marks a bright orange survival hut. Using one is only allowed in a genuine emergency, not for a break or an overnight stay.
These huts stand in the highlands and along remote coasts, maintained by the ICE-SAR rescue association and stocked with heating, food and a radio. If weather or a breakdown strands you, get inside, use what you need, and write in the guestbook so rescuers know who was there.
