Passing place
Útskot
What do I do?
This widened spot is for letting traffic past — oncoming cars, and anyone stacked up behind you. Pull in, let them by, drive on. Never park or camp in one.
Vital on single-track roads and in the highlands, where the passing place is often the only spot two cars can meet. The Icelandic word útskot means a pull-out; blocking one strands everybody.
