What do I do?
Slow down well before the surface changes — the transition itself is the slippery part. On gravel the limit drops to 80 km/h, and in practice you'll often want less.
Hangs under the warning triangle where tarmac gives way to gravel, which happens abruptly on many roads off the Ring Road. Braking distances jump, loose stones fly, and cars drift wide in bends; a large share of tourist single-car crashes happen right at this change.
