What do I do?
If the tank is below half, fill up — the next station can be 100 km or more away, especially in the east, the Westfjords and near the highlands.
Most Icelandic pumps are unstaffed and card-only: you need a card with a PIN, and the pump pre-authorises a larger amount than you pump before settling the real charge. Many rental companies hand out a fuel discount key ring — ask for one.
