Advisory speed
Leiðbeinandi hámarkshraði
What do I do?
The blue square is advice, not law: it shows a comfortable maximum for the curve or stretch ahead in good conditions. The legal limit still applies — and in rain, wind or ice, even the advisory speed is optimistic.
Posted beneath curve and hazard warnings where the safe speed is well below the general 90 km/h limit. Unlike the yellow-and-red speed limit circle it isn't enforceable, but it's calibrated to that exact bend — locals treat it as the honest number. It's sign 812, Leiðbeinandi hámarkshraði, in the 2024 sign regulation, one of the newer signs that older guides (and Wikipedia's sign list) don't show.
